County Executive Seeks New Members for the Board of License Commissioners


As a result of the reforms outlined in Senate Bill 488 and House Bill 1317 recently passed during the 2017 Session of the Maryland General Assembly, the County Executive of Prince George’s County is now required to appoint the 5 members of the Prince George’s County Board of License Commissioners (commonly referred to as the Liquor Board).  This is a change from the previous law where the Governor appointed Liquor Board members. 

Qualifications/Experience

The County is now accepting resumes from citizens who are interested in serving on this board.  Interested applicants must be a resident of Prince George’s County and possess qualifications or experience in at least one of the following areas:

Legal/Law
Public safety
Regulatory 
Management
 

Term of Board Members


 
After the County Executive appoints a member, the appointee must be confirmed by the Prince George’s County Senate Delegation. Liquor Board members serve a three year term, however a member cannot be appointed to more than three terms.

Purpose

The Board of License Commissioners serves a quasi-judicial function in administering and enforcing the Alcoholic Beverage Laws of the State of Maryland and the Rules and Regulations for the Prince George's County Board of License Commissioners.  Hearing of the Board are generally held three times a month.  Typically the Board meets the first and second Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., to adjudicate alleged violations and the fourth Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. to address new and transfer applications.  The public is encouraged to attend the hearings.
